Did Baby Arrive Before Your Maternity Shoot? No Worries— Try these Photography Options for Special Moments!

If you missed the opportunity to book a maternity session or the baby came early, there are still several options and solutions to ensure you capture the special moments of your pregnancy.

Here are some ideas to consider:

  1. Birth Photography / Fresh 48
Birth photography is an extraordinary option that captures one of the most intimate and profound moments of your life—the arrival of your baby.

While it differs from maternity sessions, birth photography focuses on documenting the raw, emotional moments during labour, delivery, and the first interactions with your newborn.

This is also known as First 48 where we take photos during the first 48 hours of the birth of your baby.

Birth photography is a documentary approach.

2. Post-Baby Session
If you miss the maternity window or you’re coming too close to the due date for your comfort, consider a postpartum photo session with your newborn.

Photographing the bond between mother and baby in the weeks after birth is a beautiful moment that should definitely be captured and it can be just as meaningful as maternity photos.

Types of Post-Baby Sessions

  1. Mommy & Me Session - A session for mom and her newborn baby.

  2. Newborn Session - A session that focuses entirely on the baby with 2-3 sets.

  3. Newborn Family Session - A session to photograph the baby with the parents, siblings, grandparents as well as solo photos of the baby.

With advance planning, you can do a combination maternity/newborn shoot that celebrates both the pregnancy and the new arrival.

3. First-year photography
Photographing a baby's first milestones also translates perfectly in photos.

Milestone sessions can be done at 3, 6, or 9 months and most commonly for the first birthday.

Missing the window for a maternity session doesn't mean missing out on memories. By being creative and flexible, you can still capture the beauty of this unique time in your life!

Studio Sessions are held in St. Henri which is very close to Westmount, NDG, Lasalle, and the downtown Montreal area.
